how to configure pentaho to point to the correct hdfs location

I just started to use pentaho and don't know much about this project. I was trying to remove some config files (core-site.xml, hdfs-site.xml, mapred-site.xml, ssl-client.xml, and yarn-client.xml) from our project. And make the project to read those config on disk. Everything works fine except hdfs part. And we are using VFS to access these files with the help of pentaho-hdfs-vfs. Is there a way to config pentaho to make it point to the correct hdfs?

I guess when we have that hdfs-site.xml inside our project(under src/main/resources), pentaho can get that values somehow. Or do I need to specify the hdfs-site.xml location to pentaho's classpath? If so, how to do that?
